Chris is an an artist and art instructor having just completed his 35th year of teaching at The Haverford School. He is currently the Chair of a Visual Art department of 8 instructors and teaches a number of high school level art courses both beginner and advanced levels, primarily drawing and painting based curricula. He see's the study of visual art, today, as one of the most “core” of the traditional disciplines in that it offers the opportunity to intentionally deliver key 21st Century skills and practices. Haverford's Visual Art curriculum focuses on developing human perception, fostering a fluency in the visual language of signs and symbols, and gaining proficiency with the creative process. Chris is very interested in combining his long experience of working with creative learners with recent research into creativity in the fields of neuroscience and cognitive psychology to see if more appropriate curricular practices, across all disciplines, could be developed. As an artist, Chris is primarily a painter , with works in public and private collections in the U.S. and Europe. Some work can be seen here www.chrisfox.org Chris and his wife Joan (also an art teacher) have two daughters, Lucia and Adriana, and live in Philadelphia with an entirely useless cat named Roscoe. Zoë teaches a variety of 2D and digital art courses, from the foundations level to our most advanced boys. She is also faculty adviser to the Haligoluk, Haverford’s yearbook. Zoë has traditional training in painting, drawing, and printmaking from her studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. She completed her B.F.A. in fine arts and art history at the University of Pennsylvania and her master's in education at Harvard University. In graduate school, Zoë focused on applying educational neuroscience to high school visual arts curriculum design. In her courses at Haverford, Zoë emphasizes a deep understanding of the visual language alongside the development of the creative process, project management skills, and metacognitive thinking. Zoë enjoys helping teachers from other disciplines introduce the visual arts and technology into their curricula, and will be embarking on study in technology integration this fall. Zoë maintains a studio practice in South Philadelphia. You can see some of her artwork at www.zoeblatt.com. Zoë loves to travel abroad, garden, and spend time knitting with her cat, Charlotte. |
